Description: These Knightia measure aprox 4 1/2 and just over 3 inches long. The Knightia fish, called Knightia eocaena and Knightia alta, are part of the Herring species from Green River Fossil Formation, near Kemmerer, WY. They are apart of the Eco scene, ranging about 50 million years ago. The fishes scientific Order Clupeiformes, Family Clupeidae. The Clupeidae family has around 50 modern fish water species, is the most common fish in the Green River fossil lake formation and in the world, and is the Wyoming state fossil. The Knightia fish are often found in the mass mortality plates, as they are a fish group that often travel in schools.
