Description: Pair of Vintage French Gilded Metal Gothic Torch Sconces, “Chateau” Style, Mid-Century “Riviera These two impressive vintage French two light sconces, crafted in gilded metal, are reminiscent of entry hall torches in a Gothic castle. The back plates and arms are designed in a handsome “Ferronerie” pattern with a hammered surface. The curled ends of the backplates recall parchment scrolls and the bobèches are shaped like crowns. The resemblance to real torches is accentuated by the wax around the light bulb sockets. This style of sconces was very popular in France in the mid-twentieth century, especially along the Riviera. In very good condition with the exception of signs of normal use enhancing their lovely aged patina, this beautiful pair of sconces will need to be re-electrified to the standards of the buyer's home country as they are presently wired for use in France.
