Description: PAULDING Art Deco, White Porcelain Bath Sconces & Opal Glass Shades, Restored This listing is for a pair of highly stylized, art deco white porcelain wall sconces with opal glass shades. The sconces were manufactured by J.I. Paulding in New Bedford, Mass. during the 1930's. The porcelain and the glass are both in very good condition, but one shade has a chip in the flared mounting (see photos 9 & 10). However, the chip is completely hidden when the shade is in place. We cleaned the fixtures of all the old dirt and wall paint and rewired them. Please note that these do not have the typical pull chain switch, and they must be operated from a wall switch. The polarized, ungrounded outlets at the bottom of each fixture have also been rewired, but since they are not the modern 3-wire grounded outlets, you should consult with your electrician before hooking them up. The sconces have been tested, and they are guaranteed to work correctly, and to be as described. Bulbs are not included. The mounting hardware was missing when we got the fixtures (you cannot buy this type of hardware anymore), so we made some up and it is included in the sale. You know, it takes almost as long to make up the mounting hardware as it does to restore the fixtures because of all the metal shaping involved. Wish we could still buy it. Dimensions: 4-7/8" diameter at wall, projects 8-1/8" from the wall with shade in place. Uses standard base bulbs.
