PAIR OF VENICE WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS BY LISTED ARTIST JOHN HAYMSON (1902-1980)

Description: Up for sale are 2 John Haymson watercolor paintings on cotton paper, signed in the lower right corners and titled in the lower left corners. The paintings are both in excellent condition, only showing slight waves near the top (see photos). Both paintings come framed and matted. These paintings appear to be originals based on magnified inspection (see photos), they lack any evidence of mechanical or Lithography printing, i.e. lack of patterned and unpatterend dots. John Haymson worked and studied for a time in Italy before he was forced to flee, so it's possible these paintings are from pre-1939. Title: St. Mark's Venice Medium: Watercolor. Framed. John Haymsonwas an Austrian-born American painter and printmaker best known for his expressive depictions of street scenes and women. Over the course of his expansive art career, Haymson worked with a variety of media, including lithography, watercolor, and oil paint. Born in 1902 in Vienna, Austria, Haymson went on to attend the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and worked as both a stage designer and fabric painter throughout Europe. In 1939, the artist fled Austria following the Nazi occupation and settled in New York, where he taught for a number of years at the Parsons School of Design. Today, Haymsons works are in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. The artist died in 1980 in Hasting-on-Hudson, NY.
