Description: Self PortraitbyPascal Cucaro Original Painting - Oil on Canvis Hand Signed by the Artist - LL Frame Size: 24" x 28"Image Size: 19.5" x 23.5" Condition: Painting in Excellent condition $1,450.00 Pascal Cucaro was an American painter known for his depictions of circus scenes and landscapes. Comprised of brownish-purples and primary colors, his choppy strokes of impasto paint give a feeling of movement to his work. “Some may label me as impressionistic but categorizing a painter limits him and can sometimes prevent him from finding himself,” he once said. “A painter is always changing, revising his techniques and subjects so that it’s not really fair to put him under a title.” Born on November 6, 1915, in Youngstown, OH, he became interested in art during his time in the U.S. Army. After leaving the armed forces, Cucaro moved to San Francisco to study at the California School of Fine Arts from 1948 to 1952. His association with the local counterculture led him to the circles of Beat-era artists, writers, and philosophers. In 1965, his paintings would garner him the Presidential Medal of. Freedom. He was later touted by San Francisco’s Chamber of Commerce, for “enhancing the prestige of San Francisco and the Bay Area as a major world culture center through his creative energy and work.” The artist died in January 2004 in Sausalito, CA.
