Description: In this listing we are offering a group of original cast iron Eagle and Eaglets mechanical bank parts. This listing is for a group of parts from two incomplete parts banks. Many components are missing. The Eagle & Eaglets banks were made by the J. & E. Stevens Toy Co. of Cromwell, Connecticut between 1883-1923 or so. This bank design bank was patented on 23 January, 1883 & was designed by Charles M. Henn of Chicago, Illinois. We find it quite fascinating that this bank, which has birds on it, was designed by a man with the last name of Henn. The bank parts we are offering, which are from two banks, are comprised of some broken parts are partly present & some parts present & complete. There are many parts entirely missing. These two incomplete parts banks are missing some components on the two large eagles & they have some components which are broken off &/or are missing of the large eagles. The eyes of both large eagles are missing. The wings are mostly missing as only part of one wing of the four wings of the large eagles would have had is present. The lower & upper parts of the large eagle's beak are present on one eagle. The lower part of the beak is present on the other large eagle but the upper beak section is broken off & missing. One of the large eagles has part of the bottom section of the tail feathers broken off & missing. The two small eaglets are both present & both have their lower beaks present. But, one eaglet is missing one wing. The other eaglet is complete. The nest underneath the eaglets is complete & intact. The activation lever, shaped like a snake, which was located under the large eagle is present & intact. The circular coin trap which would have been under the base is missing. The two original screws underneath the base holding on the base plate are missing. Present is the elaborately designed structure of the bank which supports the nest & the birds. This section of the bank has the major majority of the rich & appealing all original paint still present. The bank has never been cleaned & lots of the entirely original paint is still present on this area of the bank. The bank is missing some wires, rivets, & screws. There are four small pieces loose which we have shown in photos. One of these is a piece with a large eagles lower beak at the end. We cannot tell whether or not there are any other interior components which are completely and/or partially missing. The paint shows considerable wear on some areas. But, the paint is excellent on the areas of the top & side base structure of the base. All of the components present are original & all of the paint present is original. One large eagle is broken off of the bank where it would have been connected at the ankles. Technically, when the Eagle & Eaglets banks were made many had a fragile little box type bellows inside of the banks which were sometimes made of wood & paper & sometimes made of wood & cloth. These little boxes originally caused a slight chirping sound when the banks operated. The boxes were so fragile that 90% or more of the small boxes probably broke early in the use of the banks. We say many had these chirp boxes as we do not know whether they all had them. In any event, in the group of parts we are offering the chirp box is not present. Very few collectors who know about the chirp bellows box point place more than a tiny, if any, significance at all on the issue. Basically it generally tends to be no negative point if a bank does not have it & only a tiny bonus point if a bank has it. The group of parts offered in this listing came from two different examples of Eagle & Eaglet banks. We are offering these bank parts exactly like we found them & have not cleaned the parts & have not done anything else to them. The inventory number for this listing is 11,635.
