The wax is water soluble so it'll come right off. Wax resist is a great aid to potters and ceramicists who want to keep their glazing neat and clean. You can paint the bottoms to protect your pots from absorbing glaze, and you can also paint designs on your pieces to show off the unglazed clay with negative space. You can also paint wax on to greenware and then with a damp sponge wipe around the wax to show depth of design.
