Description: This is a special piece from the Mississippian aged Glen Dean Fm. of Kentucky. While Pentremites blastoids are some of the most common blastoids, this location preserves color patterns from when it was living. This specimen has one beautiful specimen with vivid color patterns and delicate brachioles preserved. There are also 2 other Pentremites with minor damage from collecting. Blastoids are echinoderms, related to starfish, sand dollars and crinoids. They tend to be a bit smaller and usually only the theca is preserved. Blastoids will bracholes or stems are rare. This scientific paper describes the preserved color patterns. Color Patterns in Mississippian (Chesterian) BlastoidsHarold H. Beaver and Alexander J.
