Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a nice Ipsen P&E Danish terracotta Art Pottery vase, c. 1900. The vase has a tankard form and has multiple designs with an incised band around the center with four square/cube designs and an incised band around the top with six orange discs at the top edge. The colors used on this line of pottery were orange and brown although the designs would vary. The vase is marked with the early incised crown mark and intertwined initials P&E (for Peter and his wife Enke), model # 216 and several other identification marks. The company was established in 1843 by Rasmus Peter Ipsen who was later joined by his son Bertel. Bertel expanded the company and opened shops in both Paris and London and represented the line at most world exhibitions from 1846-1917. An interesting note is that Georg Jensen who is the famous Danish silversmith and jewelry designer early in his career worked as an artist for Ipsen. Measures 3 1/2" high, 2 3/4" in diameter at top and is 2 1/4" in diameter at the base. Weighs 6.3 ounces. This nice vase is in excellent Estate condition with no major flaws. There is a tiny no-harm nick on the bottom edge and a faint scrape in the color also on the bottom edge. Neither of these flaws are noticeable when the vase is sitting upright. We at Antiques & Moore have been in the Antiques business for over 30 years and try to describe our items as accurately as possible.
