He created a small nine hole golf course in this area. In 1967 the High Elms Golf Course was created in the same location. He was also a very keen naturalist and a close friend of Charles Darwin. John Lubbock died in 1913 and is buried close to the Church of St Giles the Abbot at Farnborough. This path leads uphill from High Elms Road at Clockhouse Farm to The Rookery and then to Cuckoo Wood.
