Description: Audrey Rose by Frank De Felitta Book Club Edition. G.P. Putnam’s Sons New York 1975 Hardcover w/ Dust Jacket Later adapted into a horror movie by the same name. From the Pickfair estate: Not just a book, but a book from the house of Hollywood celebrities which was possibly haunted.Pickfair was the stately home of Hollywood’s royal couple, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, movie stars in the ‘teens and 1920s. After their divorce in 1936, Fairbanks moved out, but Pickford continued to reside in the mansion with her third husband, actor and musician Charles "Buddy" Rogers (star of the Academy Award winning ‘Wings’ (1927) and dubbed ‘America’s Boy Friend’) until her death in 1979. When Buddy Rogers died in 1999, his second wife Beverly Rogers inherited his estate, which included a number of books from the Pickfair library. With her death in 2007, the books came up for auction in 2008 as her estate was sold off. The books were bought by a Mary Pickford fan, who printed bookplates for them stating: “Ex Libris Pickfair This book came from the library of Pickfair or Pickfair Lodge. It was the property of Charles ‘Buddy’ Rogers and his wives, Mary Pickford and Beverly Rogers. Purchased at auction November 23, 2008. Empty for several years after Pickford's death in 1979, Pickfair was sold to Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss. In 1988, it was purchased by actress Pia Zadora and her husband Meshulam Riklis, who demolished Pickfair in 1990 and to build a larger mansion its place. Faced with harsh criticism, Zadora defended her family's actions, stating that the house was allegedly in a poor state of repair and was infested by termites. In 2012, Pia Zadora claimed on BIO channel's Celebrity Ghost Stories that the real reason she demolished Pickfair was because it was haunted by the laughing ghost of a woman who allegedly died there while having an affair with Douglas Fairbanks. "When we moved into the house it was beautiful, everything was perfect, it was a dream … but weird things started to happen … so my husband and I, after trying to figure out what to do, decided we were going to have the house razed…. If I had a choice, I never would have torn down this old home. I loved this home, it had a history, it had a very important sense about it and you can deal with termites, and you can deal with plumbing issues, but you can't deal with the supernatural."
