It was drawn by CLAUDE REIGNIER CONDER and lithographed by VINCENT BROOKS DAY & SON. Pilgrim's Progress has been more familiar to people, high and low, rich and poor, for the best part of two centuries, than any book except the Bible. "Mr C. R. Conder's Pictorial Scenes from the Pilgrim's Progress are especially interesting, using great imagination in realizing more vividly than heretofore the wonderful visions of John Bunyan, and are pervaded by a fine sense of remoteness unreality and strangeness as though they really belonged to the land of fable mystery and symbolism." Mr Conder is often compared strongly to Gustave Dore, but he has ideas of his own. INTERESTING NOTE: C.R. Conder was a noted Victorian archaeologist and explorer, cousin of Charles Conder, and one of the recent suspects for the true identity of Jack the Ripper. CONDITION: Please INSPECT PHOTO. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
