Piko 5/6300 HO gauge DR BR 89.2 / Saxon VT Steam Locomotive in black livery

Description: This really nice HO gauge loco by Piko of East Germany (DDR) is 5/6300 a BR 89.2 / Saxon VT steam locomotive in DB black livery. It has running number 89 262 The Royal Saxon State Railways designated triple-coupled, axleless tank locomotives for light freight train service and shunting service as the Saxon Class V T. From 1925, the German Reichsbahn classified the locomotives in the series 89.2 and 89.82 . The Type 3 locomotives were built between 1895 and 1901. This series of VT differed significantly from the older locomotives. The driving wheel diameter was now 1,260 mm, compared to 1,420 mm for designs 1 and 2, and the rear wall of the cab was slightly recessed in the lower area. The boiler pressure was raised to 12 bar. Six locomotives from 1895 were classified by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the 89.82 series with the numbers 89 8215 - 8221. These locomotives were decommissioned by 1933. The 69 newer machines that were not yet scheduled for decommissioning were classified in the 89.2 series like the 1914-1919 model and were given the numbers 89 201 - 269. Another was taken over by the Oberhohndorf-Reinsdorfer coal railway in 1940 (89 268"). The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, it is tested and runs. It comes complete with its box which is shelf worn. A complete external visual inspection has shown the overall condition is very good but the loco needs a clean. Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.
