It is exceptional in many respects, one is that it is the result of the cooperation between 16 public TV stations in 16 European countries and that each of the 17 countries had a local director take over, all of them basing their treatment on a script written by French author Fran ois Billetdoux. In Reflections on Pitchi Poi Claude Singer stresses the outdated image of the Jews presented at at the same time as Le Viel homme et l'enfant, far earlier than the films that constituted a breach like Holocauste, le Chagrin et la Piti , and later Shoah. Dona, dona sung by Nahema Hendel May 1944, in Provence, a young Jewish woman fleeing Nazi persecution confides her little girl of three months to a stranger, Mathieu, a solitary shepherd who will raise her alone.
