Description: Alfred James Dewey was an American artist (1874-1958). "Firelight Fancies" was one of his renditions, and based on my research this postcard from 1908 (I think) was an earlier version of "Firelight Fancies," which a year or two later appeared in color on postcards. In my experience, the ones with color are attractive but easier to find, so this one may be somewhat less available in the general market. This postcard was published by T.P. & Co. of New York, and it's identified as Series 562. The card was postmarked in West Willington, Connecticut on January 23, 1913. It's addressed to the recipient in Eagleville, CT. A feature that I liked about this card is the particular stamp that was used. Usually on postcards of this era you'll see a green Franklin or Washington, but this postcard features the one-cent, green Balboa stamp issued in 1913 as part of the Panama-Pacific Exposition Issue. It's a stamp that generally has more value than other common stamps that you typically see on cards of the era.
