Description: Striking Primitive 1890’s Red & Blue Calico string quilt. The colors in this quilt pop!!! Bright reds and blues make this an eye appealing design. Well planned triangle string blocks with an assortment of early fabrics in indigo blues, blacks, burgundy, polka dots, brown prints and shirting fabrics on a red calico background. The back is a soft blue homespun and there is a delightful woven 4” chin guard along the top of the quilt. The binding is rolled from the back and hand stitched. The quilt is hand quilted. The size is 70x73 Surprise!!! As I was photographing the quilt I noticed an open seam which reveled another quilt inside!!! I’ve included a photo so you can see. An exciting find and certainly an older quilt was used as batting. The quilt is thicker and heavier than a single layer quilt but it lays flat with no bunching or loose batting. The quilt is in overall very nice condition with the only issues being the open seam and some light fading to the homespun back. A few lines of quilting have come loose but do not effect the integrity of the quilt. Please see the photos. I know you’ll love adding this beautiful unique quilt to your collection or you’ll be proud to gift it to someone special. Maybe even loosen a few stitches to see what mystery quilt lays inside. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions or request additional photos, I am happy to help and reply promptly. Be sure to look at the other beautiful quilts I’ll be posting. Thanks for looking and Best of luck!!!
