Description: An original signed letter dated 25th June, 1979 with personal greeting from the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to Mr. Frank Carr of the National Maritime Trust, with whom he had a long and active correspondence. Some years ago, I was lucky enough to acquire a number of items from the estate of Frank Carr (1903-1991) including letters from the Prince to Frank, who became the first Director of the National Maritime Museum in the UK and founded the World Ship Trust for the preservation of historic ships around the world.Philip himself became Honorary Head of the Maritime Trust and in 1948 a Trustee of the Museum; he was also President of the Cutty Sark Society from 1951. The Prince was in the habit of typing his own letters and other work which he did for many years avoiding the need for a secretary having to follow him around. The subject refers to various active and current projects, involving Frank Carr and Philip himself who saw this as a long term one of many projects, which it was, making headlines all over the world. Philip welcomed the chance to bring public attention to these and other often worldwide projects as he did with great success.
