Description: - Made in USA - Brass & Timber - Two Hardened Steel blades - High quality - 125mm (5") overall length Purfling cutters have been used by luthiers for centuries by luthiers to cut the trenches for the purflings in violin plates. They have been adopted more recently by guitar makers to cut binding and purfling rebates. A Purfling & Binding Cutter is a simpler and more economical alternative to a router, though the process is considerably more time consuming. This quality tool was designed by luthier Irving Sloane and is manufactured by IBEX in the USA. It has a guide which is run along the edge of the instrument and blades that cut the trench. The blades can be set to width to match the purfling or binding. The tool can cut a trench up to 6.5mm x 6.5mm (1/4” x 1/4”) Use either with both blades or one blade at a time for narrow purflings.
