Thomas married Margery Heath of Horton, Staffordshire on 24 November (Quaker 9th month) at Pownall Fee, Cheshire.Biographical notes by Nick Sheedy:A great deal is known of Thomas Janney (1633-1697). He was born (believed to have been born in 1633) and raised in Cheshire where the Janney family resided for generations. His baptism is recorded at Styall, in the township of Pownall Fee, parish of Wilmslow, Macclesfield Hundred, County Cheshire, England. Thomas Janney was a yeoman farmer of the "Midlands" and lived in Pownall Fee, Cheshire. He joined the Religious Society of Friends in 1654, two years after its founding. He was a Minister of the Quaker faith, published religious papers and traveled extensively in England, Ireland, and America. He was persecuted, heavily taxed, had property seized, and was imprisoned numerous times in England because of his religious convictions and his refusal to pay tithes ("steeple house rates") to the Church of England. His mother died in 1677, and his father in 1682. Two of his sisters and other relatives had already emigrated to Pennsylvania. Thomas initially purchased 250 acres from Penn and moved his family to Bucks Co. The Janney family took Passage on the ship "Endeavor" from London and arrived at the Delaware River 19 September 1683. They worked quickly to establish a home before winter. The Janney family purchased more land in the area and prospered. Thomas Janney was elected to a 3-year term on the Provincial Council in 1684, and again in 1691, and was also a county judge. He continued in America the Quaker ministry that he had begun in England. In 1690 he donated 72 acres of land to be used as the Quaker burial grounds for Falls Monthly Meeting at Fallsington, Bucks Co., the first MM organized in Pennsylvania. The meeting house there was built in 1693. Thomas continued to publish papers in the interest of Friends and corresponded with his sister, Martha [Janney] Burgess who remained in Pownall Fee, Cheshire and with other Quakers. He returned to England in 1695 as a Quaker Minister. He traveled England for nearly two years meeting with Friends. He became ill, and died at the home of his sister, Martha (Janney) Burgess, in 1697, just two or three months before he planned to return to Pennsylvania. He died on the 12th of 12 month 1696/7 and was buried on the 15th day of 12 month at the Friends Burial Ground in Mobberly, Cheshire, England. Free eBay listing template designed by © dewiso.com.
