The medal was presented for long service and was awarded to non-commissioned officers and men who had completed a minimum of 20 years’ service in the Volunteer Force. The medal was subsequently extended to members of the Volunteer Forces of India and the colonies in 1898. Officers could be eligible on account of any previous non-commissioned service. The medal was superseded by the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal upon the formation of the Territorial Force in 1908... Description The medal is circular, 36mm in diameter and was struck in silver. The obverse of this medal bears the effigy of the reigning monarch at the time that the medal was issued and a corresponding inscription.
