Description: A very rare solid silver gilt 17th century German Chalice & Paten, made by Johann Eissler, Nuremberg c.1680. The large chalice stands on a large Hexafoil pedestal base. The knopped stem tapers upwards towards a large bowl. The underside has a large finely engraved contemporary coat of arms of probably the Hormann family. There is a matching unmarked (probably later) silver gilt paten. The chalice and paten are fitted in a lovely 19th century silk lined case. The chalice is fully marked with the Nuremberg town mark, maker's mark of Johann Eissler and zig zag assay scrape. Weight of chalice : 417 grams/ 13.4 troy ounces.Weight of paten : 124 grams/3.9 troy ounces.Height of chalice : 21.5 cm/8.5 inches.Diameter of paten : 15cm/6 inches. Condition : Chalice and paten are in fine condition with no damage or repairs. The gilding has some age staining. The silk lined case has some scuffing to the exterior.
