Description: Rare 1840s MINTON Pierced Juice Drain Insert Tray, MEISSEN PATTERN, BB New Stone Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE MINTON JUICE TRAY Rare antique ironstone oval pierced drain tray measuring 12-1/8" long by 8-3/4" wide. Featuring a beautiful Japanese inspired design of trailing bamboo, chrysanthemums and florals, underside is rimmed with a solid foot to keep it raised for draining. Bearing the pattern name MEISSEN in cartouche, it is marked M & Co. for MINTON - incised BB NEW STONE, pattern dates 1841-1845. Designed as a tray insert for allowing liquids to drain through the small holes, it was a common piece used to keep meat, fish and similar dishes from sitting in their own juice. Condition is lovely with one old dark chip on the top edge as shown - that's it - no hairlines, discoloration or damage. This is simply a striking early piece - wonderful addition to any collection.
