Description: This oddity is one of the original production from the Horsman Billiken dolls in 1909, sold as a "good luck charm" to have in your home. The doll was created by Florence Pretz, an American art teacher and illustrator. Pretz had designed the doll after a strange figure that had appeared in her dream. The doll has an almost cone-like head, a wide mischievous smile, red eyes, and the body of a teddy bear. These dolls come from the collection of my dear friend’s mother. She was an art historian by training and had a keen eye for beauty and quality. She collected many types of things----parts of her collections were featured in museum shows that traveled across America. She was a third generation Californian and some of her collection would have come from family. I do not know the history of individual pieces but I do know that they were lovingly curated and cared for by her as a collection. Her beautiful dolls are now ready to be passed on to others who will love them as much as she did.
