Description: Vintage 1953 15” Madame Alexander MISS FLORA McFLIMSEY Wearing the outfit from the 1951 Miss Flora McFlimsey’s Easter Bonnet (1951) and Miss Flora McFlimsey’s Birthday Party (1952) by Mariana - two in a series of books she wrote about a little Victorian doll - this very sweet hard plastic and vinyl doll by Madame Alexander made her debut in 1953. She has an unbreakable plastic body and a soft vinyl head. Her hair can be washed, combed and curled. While very rare and hard to come by, she is very nearly all original in her complete eyelet-trimmed dress and under-clothes, her black stockings and high-top button-shoes and jaunty little straw hat with turned-up brim. (I have added vintage florals and feathers, and new ribbon to the hat, which seem to have been lost.) The hat also was missing its ribbons which tied under her chin, so I have added a stretch cord to fit under her chin. The two books are included in this sale as well as a sweet crocheted bunny and a pink parasol. Her dress is not perfect. There are some slight very light and very thin marks on the front which I was unable to remove (see photo) and the back of her dress has been mended by a previous owner, and her wide pale pink ribbon sash covers and camouflages it nicely. The two books are in fair and poor condition. I acquired them to accompany the doll and they were the only first editions available for sale at this time. While they are both first editions, they have been much-loved and often-read through the last 70+ years. One has some water damage and is missing its spine. I have not attempted to tape it to keep it as original as possible. The books came to me in this condition, but I over-looked their condition in favor of including them as they both depict her in the same outfit she is wearing. Her original hat did not have feathers, but I added them because they are present on her hat in the books. The bunny is likely vintage, if not antique, and is crocheted beautifully. I added the parasol and bunny because they are in the two books as well. This perky and delightful doll will thrill any collector or grandparent longing to share something like this with a lucky grandchild. Thank you very much for looking!
