Description: RARE DOG ART CIGARETTE / TOBACCO / TRADE CARD, COLLECTIBLE, UK. 1940 John Player & Sons issue of 50 cards, "Dog Heads", this collectible art card from the 1993 authorized REISSUE by Imperial Publishing Ltd. The front of the card is a head art painting picture and the back has a short description of the breed. Card size is 1.4" wide x 2.7"tall. Original paintings by Arthur Wardle. Size of the artwork, outlined in a fine black line, is 1.2" wide by 2.5" high. Printed on the reverse side with details of the breed, the series number and breed name. Arthur Wardle (1864 - 1949) was not only the most famous canine illustrator of his time, but also illustrated the most famous breed books and encyclopedias of the day. The volume of Wardle’s paintings reproduced on collectible cigarette cards alone, totaled approximately 250. (hint of a slight horizontal crease at "ear" level)
