Description: This is the small of 3 19th Century French Léchefrite we have in the store. Léchefrite means "drip pan" and these were used as early as the 12th century. The drip pan was a container that collected or "licked" the cooking juices and anything that fell from whatever was roasting on the spit. They came in different designs, such as some in metal or ceramic, and some with wooden handles, but they all had 1 or two pouring spout. The three we have have a loop on one side and a spout on the other, in a D shaped design. This smallest of the three has a gorgeous deep umber interior and an almost charcoal color on the outside. It's a gorgeous piece of antique French ceramic, that would be a wonderful addition to any decor, be it on a shelf or table. They are great conversation pieces.
