Description: Please feel free to make an offer. An unusual Prussian 19th Century English Childs Sword. Obviously it's not sharp & doesn't have a blade edge as it was for a child to play with. I believe that it's a Prussian cavalry officer's or Troopers sabre circa 1800's but please do your own research. This is a scarce piece & would have been made for a very wealthy English child as his names engraved on the blade. It comprises a steel hilt bound with fishskin & brass twist wire handle. Its a nice looking & unusual Prussian sword. Marked to makers "Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co, Solingen" It's has a few other marks & designs etched to the blade, such as a crown & the owners son's name "Arthur Thomas Etheridge". The 25" blade is nicely etched & firm in the hilt. It has some expected age & patina. The hilt is solid with a patina all over. It has it's original fishskin grip but the twisted brass grip wire is a little damaged in places. There was a Thomas E. Etheridge who was Captain of the Severn, so maybe Arthur Thomas Etheridge was his son. I haven't done any real research but it would be interesting to find out it's true history. It would be great to uncover who Arthur was, possibly the son of an officer? The Germans produced a lot of blades for British swords, but I believe its unusual to see a Prussian pattern sword with a Royal crown & cypher. The addition of the boys name is also a very nice touch. In expected used condition for an item of this age & nature. The brass twisted wire is a little tatty & damaged around the fish skin handle. Please study the images as they also form part of the description & please do your own research. All UK postage includes the extra cost of being signed for, for added peace of mind.
