Description: This rare antique bronze taza /footed bowl is aprox 11.5" in diameter and 4.75 "tall. The amazing bas relief by Clodion (1738-1814), which is aprox 5.25" depicts a neoclassical woman pouring something onto a smoking fire. (Possibly an offering into an incense burner / censer). A snake climbs up the vessel that houses the fire and also snakes encircle the beautifully decorated 4 footed base. The scene is detailed with the stone stairs she stands on, other vessels around her, floral pieces as well as her flowing hair and the smoking fire. The top has a small lip around it and had a lacquer finish around it that has some wear. (please see pics)The piece is structurally sound and has the initials BD 507 on one foot, another foot has the letter S in it indicating it is from Barbedienne Foundry. It is an exceptional, beautiful and rare piece.
