Description: True first hardback edition of Ray Cumming's science fiction classic, Explorers Into Infinity (Avalon, 1965). NF/NF. Not an ex-library. Not remaindered. Rust cloth boards with black gilt to spine. Text block tight and bright, with an almost invisible smudge on long page ends. No internal markings, 192 pp. The gorgeous and unclipped jacket shows $3.25 price. Illustration is vivid, deep and still pops. Looks as if it just came off the shelf. Spine image offset by printer upon publication on all copies. Does not detract from appearance. Now protected in mylar (see photos). Cummings is considered one of the founding fathers of science fiction, who published a string of influential and speculative books beginning in 1919. He wrote comic stories for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel. Many of his stories dealt with time travel. Explorers Into Infinity tells the store of a man who submits to a scientific experiment involving "planetary atoms," that takes him into another world. Scarce in this condition.
