Description: Antique Rare Large size 1800s Primitive Spongeware Butter Crock with Matching LidClassic blue sponging on white stoneware base - with blue stencil "Butter". Rare larger size with a 5” height and a 7 ¼” diameter.Crock has a small chip at the base and the lid was broken into 2 pieces - a clean break that has been glued back together by previous owners. The lid fits securely on the crock - no chips on the rim edge but a small chip on the knob.. It has typical stoneware glaze flaws - air pops on the lid around the knob. Please see the attached photos. No bale handle or holes in the crock to secure a bale handle. There is a small bit of stoneware glued by the break on the top of the lid.
