Description: This is a finely rendered and beautiful RARE Antique Old California Seascape Oil Painting on canvas, by the seldom seen early female California Impressionist painter Lillian Morrill Richardson. This work depicts a gorgeous Laguna Beach seascape scene, with clear azure waters and wispy cotton like clouds painted above. Signed: "Lillian Morrill Richardson" in the lower left corner. Additionally, this piece is titled, signed and dated on the top stretcher bar of the verso: "The Opal Sea...By Lillian M. Richardson. Oct. 1936...Santa Ana, Calif." Approximately 18 3/4 x 22 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 16 x 20 inches. Good condition for nearly 100 years of age, with light craquelure in some areas, and evidence of a few old, patched repairs which can be seen on the verso of the canvas (please see photos.) Original period gilded frame has light scuffing and edge wear. Lillian Morrill Richardson's paintings are extremely rare, and this is the first offering by this early California Impressionist painter to ever be available since the invention of the Internet.
