Description: Exceptional quality 19th century railway regulator wall clock by John Walker of London who is a prolific railway clock maker with a beautiful age patina and colour to the Teak case Teak is a superb wood and was used on ship and boat building because of its high strength, being resistant to rot and has a low shrinkage ratio. It has a high oil content and and a tight grain so was used on outdoor products as it is resistant to weathering. Teak was used where there was periodic changes in moisture and that shows on this clock as it is in excellent condition for age with a superb patina and colour and absolutely no sign of rot still soild and very heavy and obviously this clock was made for a tropical country in this case India Original full length door to the trunk with a working lock and key The case has a classic railway regulator clock design with fantastic proportions with circular surround to top with reeded decoration and a chisel caddy bottom This clock displays beautifully on the wall and the colour and patina to the teak is second to none Case is in great condition for age and looks fantastic on display as i am sure you can see from the pictures Original 14 Inch diameter circular silvered dial Roman numerals with original brass hands with a full 60 second subsidiary dial Silvered dial is in excellent original condition protected by the glazed door with maker engraved to the centre John Walker of London (68 Cornhill & 230 Regent Street) and numbered 2611 along with G.I.P.R to top which stands for Great Indian Peninsula Railway. Notice also the Indian numbers inside the roman numerals The G.I.P.R was incorporated in 1849 and John Walker had a good relationship with a few indian railways with Indian numbers also engraved onto the dial inside the roman numerals Top quality 19th century 8 day duration precision regulator movement with deadbeat escapement and maintaining power and fine beat adjustment Comes supplied with its original heavy regulator Pendulum, brass weight and original winding crank key Movement has been recently serviced so is in full working order keeping good time as can be seen in the video above The clock in total measures 68.25 inches high x 18.5 inches wide x 10.25 inches deep The main trunk measures 13.25 inches wise x 7.75 inches deep John Walker was well reknowned for making railway clocks in London as well as supplying railway companies with clocks all over the world and had a very good relationship with indian railways as well as having the contract of maintenance for most railway clocks.
