Description: This listing is for a Rare Blair Hawk-Eye Leather Covered Improved Detective Box Camera. It comes with one original BLAIR glass plate holder. The original handle is intact. It was made in May of 1890. The shutter is working. The lens is separating, and I believe the bellows has been replaced. The back cover is intact. There is some slight leather loss, and the leather is brittle. There are no film holders. This camera is quite large, it measures approximately 7" high by 6 1/2" wide by 12 1/4" long. The ground glass is intact. This camera has been in my family for over 60 years. Please view all of the photos for its cosmetic condition.The term "detective camera" was applied to many hand cameras of the period, particularly the box-types. The term "detective" was used since they could be used in the hand in what, for that time, was considered to be an unobtrusive manner.
