Description: For sale is a beautiful original oil painting by French American Artist Charles Levier (aka Maurice Verrier). This great piece was signed by the artist and also has the original gallery paper on the back verifying its authenticity the painting measures approximately 13¼” by 15¼” including the original frame and is in lovely Vintage condition expected wear for its age including areas of wear to the frame, some stains on the matting and tears to the paper backing. About the Artist: Charles Levier aka Maurice Verrier (1920-2004) Born in 1920 to a French father and American mother in Corsica, Levier held a fascination with color and form that led him, at age seventeen, to the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs for private studies. During World War II, Levier served in the French Army in North Africa, later becoming Liaison Officer with the U.S. Office of Strategic Services. Levier later moved to America but lived in both the USA and France while preparing for his first one-man show held at the Galerie Constantine in Lyons in 1949, followed by an American debut in Los Angeles in 1950. By 1955 Levier was exhibiting his Art at the Galleries de Colisee in Paris, then returned to the U.S. where an old friend of his, Dr. Lilienfeld of Lilienfeld Gallery in New York City, began to present his paintings. As Dr. Lilienfelds was widely respected, his recommendation of Levier’s work was instrumental in establishing him as a significant artist and proved a most valuable introduction to innumerable collectors. Levier is represented at the Museum of Modern Art and the Menton Museum, both in Paris, and can be found in a permanent collection of the Atlanta Museum, the Seattle Museum, the Evansville Museum, the New Orleans Museum, and the San Diego Museum. His work continues to be highly collectible.
