Description: In the 1940s, Barney and Ally Hartman, two Tennessee beverage bottlers, invented the original Mountain Dew formula while looking for a cure for all disease. The name "Mountain Dew" was originally slang for moonshine or homemade whisky. The Hartmans believed they had failed at first, but then discovered the drink's beneficial properties and gave it to their friends. The drink's popularity grew, and in 1964, Pepsi-Cola purchased Mountain Dew, which expanded its distribution across the United States.
