One side of the pike is etched "AN" for "armée nationale" (National army). This kind of pike was used in some special French battalions just after revolution when Europe tried to kill the newly born republic. But those battalions were quickly forgotten, indeed they were quite useless against enemy rifles. Pike head measures 21.0 inches long by 2.5 inches at the widest part with 1.25 inches opening at the base. This Rare Artifact had been on display in a Private Museum in Worcester , Massachusetts for many years since then. Condition is Very Nice for it's age, with usual ware and untouched Patina and only very some light edge ware from battle with remittance of the original wood Haft still present. This is an Ex-Museum Piece which had previously been on display in a Private Collection in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years!
