Description: Here offered is an amazing specimen from a little known mine in south-central North Carolina just south of Charlotte. The specimen features lots of tiny galena cubes along with pyrite as well as sphalerite, a trifecta of minerals that were the primary minerals mined at the Smart Mine. This is a prime example of the association of the ore minerals on the parting plane of the argillite. The Smart mine was a lead-silver-gold mine with silver being the primary ore being produced. Specimens such as this are extremely rare since the mine dumps have been nearly completely destroyed by development nearby. This specimen came from a single larger specimen that was a lucky find and I am very happy to be able to offer this extra from this obscure NC silver mine! 7.5x4.5x1.7 cm
