Description: This listing is for a unique Star Wars lot that came directly from the famous movie master modeler, Greg Jein. Most famous for Star Wars, Greg Jein had a long career of making props and models for movies & TV shows. After he passed away a few years back, it was discovered that he had a lot of original Star Wars props as well. A recently sold storage locker that sold at auction belonged to Jein and we were able to acquire a part of that collection. In there was a mix of Tie Fighter cockpit assembly cast models. Someone I know reached out to a former ILM employee asking about this model and got back the best information we have on these. These were made from an original Star Wars mold used on the movie that was made for the pyro scenes for the Tie Fighter being exploded/destroyed. They had this left-over mold sitting around at ILM for years and Greg made some cast molds himself for fun. The last photo I attached shows an example of the mold being made by the ILM employee for his copy. It seems like a few people on staff re-used this mold like Jein to make their own. I'm not sure if Jein was just making it because he loved the movie, or if he had intended to use it for anything. So full disclosure, this is not a "movie used" prop from the production. But it is an original mold made by Master Modelmaker, Greg Jein, using one of the tie fighter molds that came from production. It seems he never made any wings because there were only cockpit assemblies. I have included a letter from DC Fontana & a pay stub from Greg Jein as additional provenance.
