Rare HALF PLATE 1850s Ambrotype of a SEA CAPTAIN in Period Wall Frame

Description: Half-plate, mid-1850s ambrotype of sea captain standing next to a column and base. The visible area of the plate is 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" inches and the frame itself is about 9" x 7 3/4" with a hanging wire on the back. The frame looks original to the image, although the pegs holding the backing on seem newer; I have never removed it from the frame. Ambrotype is sharp, clear and in very good antique condition, as is the frame with some finish wear. The cover glass is cracked in the very bottom-left tip but the loose piece seems secure and the cover glass is stable. Fragile pack shipping. 7514A
