Description: In 1870 the Royal Crown Navy experienced one of its largest transitions in history, from wooden and sail fleets inherited from the Napoleonic era to ironclad warships. This transition became obvious during the Crimean War when the French launched La Gloire, the world's first seagoing ironclad warship built from wood but whose hull was clad in a protective layer of iron plate. Not to be outdone, the Royal Navy launched her own ironclad the following year--HMS Warrior--which, when she entered service, became the most powerful warship in theworld. This is an usual and hard to find short-run kit released by Kits Remembered. The scale is 1:250 in an open box with parts in factory sealed plastic. It is Kit # KRM30002. The model is of a transitional warship known as a "torpedo ram" which was an ironclad warship powered by steam and/or sails. As the name implies, the ships did fire early steam-powered torpedoes out of single tubes in the ship's bow and stern. The parts appear clean and well molded. The kit is also motorized. See photos.
