Description: This 1950s Lt. Col. helmet may have belonged to a veteran that served in WW2 and/or the Korean War, in order to achieve the high rank of lieutenant colonel. I spent a long time trying to read the near invisible heat stamp of “M 281”, which would make this helmet shell a McCord that was manufactured mid to late 1950s. The liner is a WW2 Capac liner with a WW2 nape strap, original WW2 paint, and what appears to be a Korean War sweat band. On the shell of this helmet a couple of names and service numbers can be seen crossed out (one of which is Philip E. Smith). The laundry number of “K-8666” is written three times on this helmet (on the shell, liner, and sweatband). Also written on the sweatband is what looks like the name “James L. Keller” with his service number written underneath. The “K-8666” and “James L. Keller” would be the same veteran. Please feel free to ask any questions!
