Description: A rare gem indeed. Here is a vintage photograph of pilot Maurice “Maury” Graham with his Douglas M-2 Bi-Plane as the very first load of US Postal service mail is weighed by then US Postmaster P.P. O’Brien and the President of Western Airlines, Harris “Pop” Hanshue on April 17, 1926. The information on the back of the card notes that Graham, one of four pilots flying mail out that day, took out the first plane with mail. Another pilot, Alva DeGarmo, recounted how he lost the coin toss to Graham and took out the second plane that day. A one-of-a-kind photo depicting American history. Graham was a highly decorated pilot who served in WWI. Sadly, in January 1930, while flying mail from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City, Graham crashed landed his aircraft in a blizzard in Utah. Graham locked the mail in his plane, secured the valuables on his person as he tried to make his way to safety on foot. Most likely succumbing to the elements, he died about six miles from the crash site. His body was found six months later.
