Description: Rare Blue Transfer Printed Miniature Dollhouse Tea Set Covered Sugar DRESDEN FLOWERS Minton (Opaque China) Staffordshire, England c. 1825 This is an exquisite antique Staffordshire transferware miniature toy sugar box with lid, circa 1825. Originally part of a child’s toy tea set, the little jar stands 2-3/4 inches tall with an inset lid and scalloped rim, measuring 4 inches across with shell shaped handles on each end, all finished with pearlware glaze. Transfer printed in rich cobalt blue, it is decorated with a striking botanical pattern of roses primrose and peonies with a simple swagged chain border trim. The piece is marked with 'Opaque China' and a printed pattern name "Dresden Flowers" with the letter M and Prince of Wales Feathers. The pattern was made by Minton c1820-1830 in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern is illustrated in Lorraine Punchard's "Playtime Pottery & Porcelain" as well as in Doris Lechler's "English Toy China", the latter of which refers to the pattern as rare. The set is in overall good condition, especially considering its age and use by generations of children. There are two chips hidden within the scalloped edge, with no other chips, cracks, or repairs. Old grunge on the foot, probably removable with elbow grease. Typical manufacturing imperfections original to the making. A gorgeous example of a rare early English floral pattern. The quality of the decoration and detailing is excellent.Sold as is, as described and shown, a pocket size work of art.
