Description: This tie tack has the signature of William H. Taft IV on it, along with the Department of Defense Logo Symbol It is in FAIR CONDITION with scratches throughout and some paint chipped off the DOD Logo. We are the 1st/original owners of this tie tack. It was received directly from the Secretary of Defense Office during the timeframe when he was serving. Taft served as General Counsel for DOD. He also served as Deputy Secretary of Defense under both Pres Reagan and Pres HW Bush. For several months he was Acting Secretary of Defense (Jan-Mar 89) after George H.W. Bush became president and his initial nominee; John Tower, was not confirmed by Senate. After much contentious debate and testimony, the eventual appointee confirmed in March 84 was Dick Cheney. He is the great-grandson of President William Howard Taft.
