Under the guidance of Allan Houser and Fritz Scholder, this group of artists usd in the contemporary Indian art movement. This highly creative group of artists included Kuka, Kevin Red Star, T.C. Cannon, Earl Biss, Sherman Chaddlesone, Parker Boyiddle, Bennie Buffalo, and others. King Kuka's work has won numerous awards and has been included in such noted collections as the National Museum of Man, Ottawa, Canada. The Deutches Museum in Munich, Germany, the Vatican in Rome. King Kuka passed away in January of 2004. From the reservation in Montana, Kuka is a recipient of over 50 awards going back to 1963. In 1993, he began painting originals for the Japanese government. His works are in the permanent collections of major museums including Gilcrease, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Museum of the American Indian, New York, the Heard Museum in Phoenix, the ClevelandMuseum of Natural History, Montana State Historical Society.
