Description: "Jan Lutma, Goldsmith" Rembrandt Van Rijn (1606-1669) Up for auction is an etching/drypoint that could be an original work by Rembrandt Van Rijn created in 1656. The title is "Jan Lutma, Goldsmith". The print was acquired in Europe in the 1950s and no Rembrandt expert I have contacted has been able to determine whether this is an original print by the master himself, or a later restrike. It is printed on laid paper, indicating that it was printed prior to the 19th century. It could be an Armand Durand edition, although there is nothing on the print to indicate this. I do not issue a certificate of authenticity, so it's up to the buyer to do the research and get the print authenticated. Sold with no return. Size: 5-3/4" x 7-1/2" Seidlitz: 276 Holstein: 276Hind: 290 Condition: Trimmed into the plate mark. Remnants of old hinges at top of verso. Slight age-toning and slight soiling on verso. Handwritten notations in pencil of Rembrandt catalogue numbers by noted Rembrandt catalogers on verso. Otherwise in very good condition. Make sure to check my other auctions, and thanks for looking.
