Description: You are bidding on a high-quality, full-color modern reprint of the vintage military manual "Handbook Overhaul Instructions Models V-1650-3, -7 and Merlin 68 and 69 Aircraft Engines", Air Force Manual AN 02A-55AC-3, T.O. 2R-V1650-13, 25 November 1944, Revised 30 January 1953, 820 pages with a number of double-wide fold-out illustrations. This is the definitive manual on the insides of the Packard-Merlin engine that powered the P-51 fighter (among others). Given the date of the revision, this must have been one of the last manuals made for this engine. This engine made the P-51 possible, and consequently the allied bombing raids over Germany. These fighters were a good match for the Luftwaffe ME-109, but had several times the range. This engine was originally designed in the 1930's and featured a number of advanced features that didn't make it into automobile engines until the 1960 - and were controversial then. These included the aluminum block with steel liners, 4 valves per cylinder, dual overhead camshafts (gear-driven - no flakey belts or chains), and many more. Chapters include General Description (30 sections), Overhaul Tools List, Dismantling and Disassembly (18 sections), Cleaning, Inspection, Repair (11 sections), Assembly of Major Subassemblies (17 sections), Final Assembly (12 sections), Testing After Overhaul, Accessories, Table of Limits, Appendix: Parts Baskets. I also offer the companion Illustrated Parts Breakout manual for this engine. Please see my other auctions. Buyer to pay actual shipping charges by USPS Media Mail. Priority Mail for Foreign.
