Retired 12 oz. Nicholas Mosse Pottery PANSY PANSIES MUG Ireland

Description: My late sister Betsy collected lots of Nicholas Mosse pottery, but as an art form rather than actual usable dishware. I've not found a piece of hers yet that shows any sign of personal wear, e.g. utensil marks, stains, or chips or cracks. On the other hand, out of her whole collection -- virtually all of which will be on eBay in the next day or two -- only one or two pieces are NOT crazed. I'm sort of surprised, given Mosse's reputation. I think they -- Mosse -- know that their pottery is prone to crazing, though, because on their webpage for care and handling (https://nicholasmosse.com/en-us/blogs/news/tip-top-pots-caring-for-your-nicholas-mosse-pottery) they address the topic. "Exposing pottery to quick extremes of heat or cold can lead to the appearance of a network of fine, hairline cracks in the glaze. This is known as ‘crazing’ and is often a feature of much older pottery. It shouldn’t affect the longevity of the pottery, and for some, it adds character." Mosse pottery doesn't contain lead, so crazing doesn't provide the risk it does for old pottery that you plan to eat from. That said, I understand many people may consider crazing a negative and I've adjusted the prices downward on this handsome mug as a result. Many thanks for looking!Rick
