Description: Opera Singer. Remembered as his country's premier baritone, he was also a distinguished author, composer, and painter. Born Roberto Banuelas Amparan, little is recorded about his early years, though he was trained at the National Conservatory of Mexico and made his 1958 professional bow in Haydn's "The Creation", then later that same year gave his first operatic performance as Marcello from Puccini's "La Boheme". Over the years he sang most of the principal roles of the baritone repertoire, his assignments including Amonasro in Verdi's "Aida", Don Pizarro of Beethoven's "Fidelio", Germont in Verdi's "La Traviata", the evil Baron Scarpia from Puccini's "Tosca", Gerard of Umberto Giordano's "Andrea Chenier", Beckmesser in Wagner's "Die Meistersinger", Rodrigo from Verdi's "Don Carlos", Tonio in Leoncavallo's "I Pagliacci", and the title leads of Verdi's "Rigoletto" and Rossini's "The Barber of Saville". Sharing the stage with virtually all of his generation's leading lights, he spent the 1960's singing throughout Mexico while making some appearances in the United States, primarily with the Dallas Civic Opera. Mr. Banuelas sang with the New York City Opera during the 1968 and 1969 seasons, then thru the 1970s was a regular in a number of major European cities including Hamburg, Munich, Turin, Prague, and Antwerp. A man of many talents, he published several novels and at least three volumes of short stories, composed a number of songs, a Toccata for Piano, and an opera trilogy entitled "The Death of Agamemnon", and created paintings that have received exhibits in Mexico City, Hamburg, and Berlin. The recipient of numerous honors including the 2007 Mozart Medal and the 2008 National Gold Medal of Fine Arts, he lived out his days in Mexico City and died following a protracted illness. At his demise, much of his rather significant recorded legacy remained available. ***Tracking and insurance includedCHECK PHOTOS/SCANS FOR CONDITIONWe accept various payment methodsAny questions please do not hesitate to askTHANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS!!The last photo is my Social Media Group (FB) "Elite Team Auctions" If you would like to join for some great deals and new inventory Inventory: BIN 1 ***
