Description: Thank you for visiting Shanna's Attic. Each bid is for a piece of Roman tesserae from the villa at Greyhound Yard, Dorchester. This villa was excavated in the early 1980's and an official report on the site published a few years later. After completion of the dig, any objects surplus to requirements (mostly tesserae not found in situ) were sold off. Comes with a laminated specimen label showing the established provenance for these pieces. For illustrative purposes a photograph from the dig with tesserae of exactly the same type still in situ is shown. The Dorset Museum still holds many of the objects found at this dig and, for those interested, W67 is the collection reference number (should you wish to do further research).
